HOW LONG IS MY LIFE?
HOW LONG WILL PROGRESS TAKE?

This piece creates a space for reflection about transgender lives and the passing of time. “How long is my life? How long will progress take?”. Transgender and non binary people exist, no matter how many debates are created around us and our worth. In the meantime our lives are lived half way, in the limbo of law, in the limbo of social acceptance. This time hurts. It hurts the soul, the mind, financially, medically,… Will we see any progress in our lifetime? Will these issues shorten our lives?

In this performative installation, transgender individuals step into a giant steel clock, one at a time for several minutes. The audience watches as the center of the clock ticks through our stomachs. A man in a suit comes for us and facilitates our deaths, laying us down over a broken piece of the clock. This action repeats over and over again. Within this choreography the person laying on the ground, after a few minutes, gets lifted up by another transgender performer and they embrace each other in a big hug. The lifted person walks away and the new performer in the scene steps into the clock.
In the debut of this performance, I got to experience its power and the affect it has on the audience. This piece holds a lot of tension and release, as well as fear and beauty. People felt uncomfortable. They perhaps felt rejection towards us, but also got to witness our essence and beauty. They got to see us “die”, and watch us get picked up and loved within our community. Getting to experience these mixed emotions forced them in a corner of reflection.

HOW LONG IS MY LIFE?
HOW LONG WILL PROGRESS TAKE?

Time passes and the worth of trans and non binary lives

is still a debate on a global scale.

The reality is that we exist and time passes in our lives as well.

Our lives are being lived half way,

under a spotlight of judgement and violence day after day.

This is  urgent,

                                                                                                                     We are not a concept,

                                                                                                                     We are a fact.

                                                                                          Give us our rights

Tick Tock...

Will we live to see the progress?
