WE SHALL RISE
Rooted in the visual language of Christian iconography, We Shall Rise speaks of the crucifixion of transgender bodies—those too often punished by systems of power, religion, society, and culture.
Transgender people are not only survivors. We are healers, mystics, and witnesses to what it means to remake the self in the face of violence. Our wounded bodies become sites of healing. Trans bodies carry both pain and power. Bodies that know how to break and, at the same time, how to bless.
I believe there are constant crucifixions in the 21st century; dehumanizing exposure in the media, anti trans laws, street violence, objectification and lack of representation. They have us in an extremely visible, vulnerable and deadly position.
The work does not end in death… the title is a promise of resurrection, defiance, and transcendence. Echoing both the ancient hope of rebirth and the current resilience of our communities, we keep rising despite the relentless crucifixions of spirit and flesh. We will rise until we reclaim this long-denied sacred space in society. This is not blasphemy. This is reclamation. This is sacred.
